Oct Agenda & Some News
Oct Meeting Agenda
Thurs Oct 10 (business)
Sat Oct 19 (business – times in brackets unless the same)
Thurs Oct 24 (Finishing Club only, no business)
10:15 (9:45) am Welcome and introduction of new members and visitors
11-11:45 am Business portion of the meeting:
- Workshop update
I’ve been emailing those who expressed interest when I was first asking about various workshops, now that we have dates and fees. If anyone else is interested in upcoming workshops, please contact me.
Sara Judith’s abstracted landscapes workshop was full and received lots of positive feedback from participants. During Oct meetings, we can provide some highlights and Norma has also posted some photos in the members’ only section of the website.
Karen Miller’s portrait clinic, Oct 17, has 2 spots available. Please contact me if you’re interested.
I have more workshop opportunities that I’ll be sending out in another week or so to determine interest. They are primarily for next spring and into the fall. Also, please let me know if you’re interested in a specific topic or instructor and we’ll see what we might arrange, if there’s sufficient interest.
- Briggs & Little Order
Some members and other groups have been asking about a wool order and I believe we’ll have sufficient interest (and the 200-skein minimum for the 30% discount) to place an order by the end of the month. I’ll be posting the new prices later this week; however, note that even with the increase the volume orders are still very economical.
Please give me your order no later than Oct 24 (note that we have sample cards in the cabinet and you can also view colours on the Briggs & Little website), firstname.lastname@example.org. I’ll confirm the cost once we know we have the 200-skein minimum for the order to be placed.
As mentioned previously, we’ll place a maximum of 3 orders a year: fall (Sept/Oct), winter (Jan) and spring (May/June).
- Olde Forge Community Resource Centre
As discussed and agreed upon at the last meeting, we will be providing a beginner rug hooking kit as an auction item for the OFCRC’s tea and auction, being held later this month. We need to prepare a kit and deliver it to the Centre no later than Thurs Oct 17. We also need to provide a value for the kit to assist with the bidding process.
In addition, we’ll be hooking a commemorative piece that will feature the building. This hooking needs to be completed by February or March, 2020.
- October’s Finishing Club topic – Robin Whitford, Using Canvas
Robin Whitford will be conducting sessions about her finishing technique using canvases. One session will be held during the Sat Oct 19 meeting and two sessions will be held Thurs Oct 24, due to the interest. If you haven’t signed up yet, please let me know and also tell me if you are attending the Sat or Thurs session.

Olde Forge Info
The City has confirmed our meeting schedule and Norma will be posting it on the home page of our website soon. Meeting dates for each month will also be noted in the monthly agenda, as per below for Oct. I’m happy to advise that after this month, we revert to the first Sat and 2nd and 4th Thurs of each month.
A reminder that fees are now due and $20 for the year (Sept 1 – Aug 31). If you want to join the Ontario Hooking Craft Guild (OHCG) as well, we can submit your payment ($40) to save you the mailing. Please note that we will only accept OHCG membership fees until March 1.
