Carol Harvey-Clark

Carol Harvey-Clark, owner of the wonderful Spruce Top Rug Hooking Studio in Mahone Bay, NS died recently. Her studio offered a broad range of hooked rugs to admire and study, as well as rug hooking supplies. I visited Carol and her Studio in 2017, shortly after I began hooking. Carol’s studio was inviting and a dye pot was simmering on the stove. She was showing two women how to abrash dye. It seemed to be the kind of place you could just hang about in, as long as you liked, watching the fabric change as the dye was absorbed, asking questions, or simply meandering about the studio. Carol has had a significant influence on rug hookers in Canada and beyond, as a founding member of TIGHR. She promoted rug hooking and was McGown certified, as well as a member of the NS Teachers Branch and certified in fiber arts (traditional rug hooking) through the St Lawrence College program in Ontario. Carol’s work has been featured in various Celebrations and authored articles in Rug Hooking Magazine.
